2010 Old School Vineyard Harvest Notes #4

We will be harvesting the Syrah 470 this Sunday September 19, 2010. It’s the first grape to ripen in the wacky 2010 season. We’ve been dropping lots of Grenache in the last week and hope to harvest it next. I’m hoping the Cabernet Sauvignon 337 & 169 come in with the Grenache or soon thereafter.
When [...]

2010 Old School Vineyard Harvest Notes #2

The Old School Vineyard is now registered organic with the State of California & the County of San Luis Obispo. Vintages from 2009 forward have “estate grown and sustainably farmed…” on the labels. For a micro producer, this will enable us to attract a new and growing market.
It’s much more work that [...]

2010 Old School Vineyard Harvest Notes #1

I will be sharing pictures and thoughts of the harvest and vineyard right up through harvest and fermentation. So far it's been a relatively cool and even summer to date. Subsequently, most growers are predicting a later harvest this fall... maybe 2-3 weeks later than normal. But that could all change very quickly if heat makes an oppressive appearance. An interesting note is that all varietals are beginning to color up (Veraison) at the same time. That could be propitious if the fruit ripens at the same time.

The Cycle Begins Anew On The Edge Of The Western Sky

Flowering Grenache Noir 362 in the organic Domaine Degher Old School vineyard. Coltrane the Lab is much more into his ball than drinking wine. But the truth be known, he loves to lap up the water when we rinse the wine barrels. The head-trained vines are looking great after this year’s plentiful rains: in this [...]
